Introducing "Six Take": The boot edition - Plus Size Daily Outfit

When Anna from Bargain Fatshionista sent me an email inviting me to take part in the newest "Take Five" challenge, I was super excited.  I was even more excited when we realized that there were not five of us participating, but six!  The more the merrier, right?!

The idea behind this challenge is that each Monday each of us will create an outfit based on that week's theme.  I can't wait to see how each of us will come up with different combinations and creations using our own unique style.

The theme for this week is "Boots", so I of course wore my trusty, black, back-lace boots from Avenue.

Outfit Details:
Black Cargo Skinnies - Lane Bryant (these are so comfy!)
Leopard Print Cardi - Fashion Bug (Last time I wore this I said it came from Catherine's, but I realized it came from FB once I looked at the tag!)
Open Knit Sleeve Cardi - Old Navy
Congac Woven Belt - Torrid (similar style in black
Brown Stone Ring - Avenue
Earrings - Charming Charlie
Spike Pendant Necklace - Gorjana via Shopbop (free with a gift card I won)
Hair - Second day waves and out of dry shampoo.  Eeek!

Make sure to check out the other ladies participating in this challenge:

Anna from Bargain Fatshionista

Nicola from 2 Many Cupcakes

Eryn from Bearly on Earth

Meg from Bargainista on a Hunt (She made the fabulous "Six Take" banner at the top of the post!)

and last, but not least, Danielle of Danimezza.

Welcome to the Jungle - Plus Size Daily Outfit

On Saturday, Jimmy and I went to our favorite international grocery/playground.  Jungle Jim's is near Cincinnati, and it is the most silly, fun, kitschy place.  You can find nearly anything that you can think of in this store.  They have every different type of ethnic food you can imagine.

Talking corn and butter right when you walk in the door.

This tree is one of my favorite things in the entire store.  One of the reasons is because it's over the candy section, and I love me some candy!

This is the view when you are standing in the aisle under the tree and looking up.  You get to see all of the treasures that Robin Hood is hiding in the hollow!

Jungle Jim's is the one place that I can find my favorite imported candy, too.  Mars Planets are like the best thing ever created.
Another one of my favorite things at Jungle Jim's is the individual rooms they have stocked with imported goods from each country.

And here's what I wore to go traipsing around in the wine section. . . ..

Outfit Details:
Striped Sweater - Target
Jeans - Aveue
Brown Moccasins - Payless
Green Swing Jacket - Avenue?
Large Beaded Neckalce - Kmart

Style Stealin' - Plus Size Daily Outfit

The other day, the lovely Vanessa fom Big Girl. Small Budget. Tiny Town. was rocking a black skirt with a camel colored sweater and a belt, and I absolutely loved the look.  I always admire Vanessa's outfits and the way she plays with color and layers, but this specific "black and tan" look really inspired me to pull pieces from my closet to try my own version.  Thanks for the inspiration Vanessa!  You are amazing.

My photos still aren't quite as sharp or well composed as Vanessa's but I'm working on it. Slowly, but surely.

Outfit Details:
Black Jersey Maxi Skirt - Sealed With A Kiss Designs
Leopard Print Cami - Catherine's
Tan Sweater with Buckle - OneStopPlus.com
Black Snakeskin Print Flats - Thrifted
Wooden Beaded Necklace - Avenue (a few years ago)

I really liked the way the red in the necklace made my red lipstick really stand out.
I've definitely gotten over my fear of mixing brown and black! Now it seems to be one of my favorite combos.

Bad Girl Gone Good - Plus Size Daily Outfit

For the first time in what feels like weeks, I finally managed to get a picture of my outfit from today!  Yay!
My friend (and fellow student) Stacee and I went to get our passport photos taken to send in with our application to take the state boards (to become an R.N.) this afternoon.  Once we both had our photos (mine were very squinty, btw), we went out to lunch and then headed to school to have the paperwork notarized, and then went on to class.

Outfit Details:
Gray Dress with Floral Border - Just My Size (last year)
Black Leggings - Just My Size
Black Moto Jacket - Lane Bryant (birthday present)
Scarf - Avenue (Christmas gift from mom-in-law)
Purple Zipper Embelished Flats- Target

So, usually I wouldn't wear leggings with flats because I feel like it cuts off my already short legs and makes me look extra stumpy, but I really wanted to wear this dress today.  And it was like 3 degrees when I left the house.  I wanted to wear my new purple zipper shoes too because they are so cute!  I have to tell you though, they killed my feet!  They started off really comfy, and I actually went a half size up in these because of the pointy toe, but by the end of the day my toes were actually bleeding from being squished together.  Not fun!

 Aren't they cute though?

All Work and No Pay

Thank you all again for your well wishes.  Jimmy is home and doing fantastic.  He came home yesterday afternoon, and has still got a drain and a g-tube (a feeding tube directly in his abdomen) in place, along with some braces on either side of his incision.  So I'm getting lots of practice in even though I didn't have clinicals this week because of the ice storm.  He's also on Lovenox, which is an anticoagulant that is given by injection.  He's so lucky he's got a nurse (well, almost) for a wife.  Although, he might argue with you on that. . . . .

I wish I had gotten some posts ready to go prior to the surgery, so that I had something ready for you guys, but I didn't think that far ahead, unfortunately.  I'm working on getting some new outfit photos ready along with some other posts. Thanks for sticking it out with me.

More to come soon. . . .

Winter Weather Upsets

Thank you all for your thoughts/prayers/vibes sent our way today.  We made it to the hospital just fine (left home at about 5:30, and got there at 6:20) this morning.  We actually made it all the way to pre-op, had Jimmy gowned up and everything (luckily they hadn't started his IV yet!), when one of the nurses came in to tell us that three surgeons called in today due to the weather, and of course, one of them was Jimmy's.  So the surgery is rescheduled for Thursday at noon.
So we will still need all those good thoughts!

Caped Crusader - Plus Size Daily Outfit

On Sunday, Jimmy and I went to Ikea to pick up a new dresser and nightstand because our old bedroom furniture was hand-me-down stuff from his grandmother, and it was very old-fashioned and ginormous.  We recently got a king-sized bed after a few years of having a queen, and I guess we didn't realize how small our bedroom really is until we got that monster in there.  With the bed, my long dresser, and Jimmy's chest of drawers all in the room, it was crowded.  We actually had to push the bed so far over that Jimmy had to kneel on the bed to get into his closet, or else I couldn't open my drawers.   Poor guy.

So here's what I wore to buy new bedroom furniture:

Sorry about the squinty face.  It was really sunny when we left the house.
Dang, I look super-pale in this photo!

Outfit Details:
Gray long-sleeved tee shirt - Old Navy
Plaid belted cape - Macys maybe. . . ? It's about 2 years old
Long black jersey skirt- Sealed With A Kiss Designs
Black flat lace-up oxfords - Target

This skirt is super comfy, and is the perfect length for me.  I've been searching for the perfect casual maxi skirt, so when I saw this one on the SWAK website, I jumped on it.  It was my first order from them, but I'm impressed so far!
I have a favor to ask you guys. . . Jimmy is having GI surgery today at 8:30, and I would really appreciate any good thoughts/prayers/energy/etc. you can send our way.
